Counselling After a Motor Vehicle Accident (ICBC)

Being in a motor vehicle accident can affect much more than just your body. Even when physical injuries are healing, your nervous system may still feel on edge, unsafe, or overwhelmed. Many people notice changes in mood, sleep, concentration, emotional reactions, or how safe they feel in the world after an accident. I offer counselling for ICBC clients that supports both the emotional and nervous system impacts of accidents, including when physical injuries or concussions are part of the picture. This work is gentle, paced, and grounded in helping your system feel safer again.

What Counselling Can Help With After an Accident

Feeling anxious, on edge, or easily startled or Fear around driving or being in vehicles,

Emotional overwhelm, irritability, sleep difficulties, and trauma responses

Feeling disconnected from yourself or others, and coping with physical injury and changes to daily life

How to Get Started

Automatic Counselling Coverage in the First 12 Weeks

If you have been in a motor vehicle accident, ICBC automatically approves counselling for the first 12 weeks after your accident, as long as you have an active claim number.

1.

No doctor’s referral is required during this time.

2.

This means you can begin counselling right away, without waiting for additional approvals, which can be especially helpful when your system is still in the early stages of recovery.

3.

If more support is needed after the initial 12 weeks, continued counselling can often be requested through ICBC with appropriate documentation.

4.

Concussion & Post-Concussion Support

Concussions and post-concussion symptoms can affect more than just physical functioning. Many people notice emotional changes, difficulty concentrating, shifts in identity, and increased sensitivity to stress. Therapy can provide a supportive space to process these changes, navigate grief or frustration around recovery, and work with nervous system sensitivity in ways that respect your energy and cognitive capacity. Sessions are paced gently, with attention to fatigue and sensory needs.

How ICBC Billing Works

I am an ICBC-approved provider and can direct bill ICBC for approved counselling sessions. This means you do not need to pay out of pocket for sessions that are covered under your claim.

To get started, you will need:

You can contact me with your claim number and I can help confirm next steps.
